Faculty of Economics - Belgrade

The Faculty of Economics at the University of Belgrade is an educational and scientific institution heading to its 70 th anniversary. It was established as the Graduate School for Economy and Trade as far back as 1937 as the first higher educational centre in the field of Economics in the former Kingdom of Yugoslavia .

Today, the Faculty of Economics is the biggest and the most prominent scientific and educational institution in the country in the field of economic sciences. The Faculty employs about 130 teachers and associates, of whom 53 are full tenure professors. Every year there are about 20 graduates and about 20 visiting scholars engaged in teaching. Up to now, around 40000 students have graduated from the Faculty; about 2173 have continued their studies successfully advancing to the MSc degree and about 730 acquired the PhD degree.

The Curriculum of the undergraduate studies in Economics, Business Management and Statistics comprises nine modules:

1. Economic Analysis and Policy
2. Marketing
3. Accounting, Auditing and Financial Management
4. Trade Management and Marketing
5. Finance, Banking and Insurance
6. Tourism and Hotel Industry
7. Statistics, Informatics and Quantitative Finance
8. Management
9. International Economics and Foreign Trade

Curriculum

Furthermore, there are about 20 Graduate (MSc) Courses related to various fields of Economics. There are two International Master Courses: International Master in Economics and Management , a joint programme of the Faculty of Economics and the HEC, France , and International Master in Quantitative Finance , supported by the teaching staff of the University Pompeu Fabra, Spain , with participation of a number of visiting scholars from many leading foreign universities and from the Faculty of economics. There is also a Master course in Tourism that is taught in English gathering a number of foreign students.

The Faculty can boast Scientific-research Centre (NICEF) which engages on its numerous projects the majority of teachers and associates, as well as a number of eminent experts outside the Faculty. Since establishing, NICEF has completed more than 800 projects for enterprises and other clients in the field of restructuring, assets valuation, privatisation, investment, etc, as well as over 100 macroeconomic projects for governments, certain ministries, funds, etc.

NICEF is divided into several constituent centres:

  1. Centre for Assets Valuation and Privatisation
  2. Entrepreneurship Centre
  3. Centre for Organisation and Leadership
  4. Securities Centre
  5. Centre for Corporate Finance
  6. Centre for Creation and Evaluation of Investment Programmes
  7. Marketing Centre
  8. Centre for Public Finances
The Publishing Centre has grown into the biggest domestic publisher of economic literature with an average of about 70 published titles per year. The Faculty of Economics has its own, library with about 120,000 titles, mainly in the sphere of economic literature covering the period since the beginning of the 20 th century till today but also has access to numerous networks with on-line economic literature

One of the major engagements of the Faculty is organisation of scientific conferences (individually or in cooperation with the Scientific Society of Yugoslav Economists – a selective scientific organisation), meetings and seminars with enterprises, banks and others. Conference papers and other scientific articles written by our professors and associates, as well as by the authors outside the Faculty, are published in the magazine " Economic Annals ", which has been categorised in the group of magazines of international importance.

The Faculty has a highly developed co-operation with a large number of foreign universities and institutes ( USA , Great Britain , Russia , France, Italy , India , China , Greece , etc.). The international cooperation has been intensified in recent years.

The Faculty has become a part of new international projects. As a participant in the consortium with three domestic and four European institutions, the Faculty has been given currently the largest international project in the country – Policy and Legal Advice Centre – financed by the European Agency for Reconstruction (EAR). Furthermore, its staff is engaged within the project Employment Support Programme done in cooperation with the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Affairs (MOLESA).

Numerous Faculty teachers and associates are engaged by domestic institutes, faculties, consultant companies, and other clients, so contributing to their reputation and strengthening professional basis of the work they perform. Moreover, some of our professors are individually involved in important international projects confirming their personal reputation as well as that of the whole Faculty.
